How to Identify Silk
Touch and Feel Test

Visual Test (Sheen)

Fake silk: Has a white or metallic shine that stays the same regardless of angle.
Burn Test (Be cautious!)
Real silk:
- Burns slowly and smells like burning hair or feathers.
- Leaves a black, crispy ash that crushes easily.
- Stops burning when the flame is removed.
Fake silk (especially polyester):
- Melts and burns with a chemical or plastic smell.
- Leaves a hard, melted bead.
Ring Test
- Real silk: A piece of silk fabric can easily be pulled through a ring due to its softness and flexibility.
- Fake silk: May bunch up or resist due to stiffness.
Water Spot Test
- Real silk will absorb it quickly and darken slightly, but the spot will disappear once dry.
- Fake silk might not absorb water quickly or at all.
